Sri International School combines the best practices of internationally tested standards of the IGCSE system, exposing students to the latest developments in education and enabling migration between diverse educational streams. Courses are designed with reduced levels of prescription in favour of frame works within which teachers devise a curriculum to suit local circumstances in our country, there are greater expectations in terms of skills and dispositions, which are perceived as relevant to life long learning, employment and Social participation. As a result the curricula are designed taking into consideration the role of transferable skills and in some cases, reduces prescribed contents in favour of content that is relevant to the changing requirements of society.
The curricula are formulated in terms of learning outcomes that are tangible and immediately recognized by students. The school encourages an integrated approach to learning, where subjects are taught in relation to each other and not in isolation so that students grasp the holistic picture and the relationship between component parts.
Sri International facilitates the integration of information and Technologies (ICT) into the class room. This is intended to help pupils develop ICT skills and to support independent learning through the vast resources of the World Wide Web. Art & Craft is an integral part of the curriculum as it broadens the student’s vision and ability to grasp abstract concepts, develops psychomotor skills and builds creative and cultural skills.
Theory of knowledge (TOK) is an interdisciplinary course intended to stimulate critical reflection upon the knowledge and experience gained inside and outside the classroom, creativity, Action, service, known by its acronym CAS, is a fundamental part of the curriculum. Students are encouraged to identify problems in their neighbourhoods, analyze and formulate suitable responses to them and initiate action that could address the problem area. Students are encouraged to participate actively in the social causes that would build a strong social conscience. Students are required to undertake original research and write an essay of up to 4000 words. This project offers the opportunity to investigate a topic of special interest and acquaints students with independent research and writing skills.
Citizenship is an intrinsic part of the curriculum in Sri International within the humanities courses. In this age when the country is facing tremendous challenges from fissiparous forces, Sri International finds it imperative to educate students about democratic, secular and patriotic practices. There is also an increased emphasis on personal, social and health education. The education system, besides providing an all round education, offers moral education and guidance in critical thinking and social awareness.
